Mike Jerowsky

I am a PhD Candidate in the Geography Department at the University of British Columbia (UBC), working with local communities and land managers to co-create open-source environmental education materials using virtual and augmented reality. I am interested in understanding how these different approaches to environmental education promote connection to nature, ecological literacy, and pro-environmental behavior in children with different levels of access to green space.

My co-supervisors are Dr. Brian Klinkenberg and Dr. Loch Brown. I have a B.A. in Geography, Psychology and Philosophy, and an M.A in Geography from UBC. During my M.A. I investigated barriers that local community groups were experiencing while participating in the co-management of urban parkland. To see what I found, click here. Professionally, my background is in teaching and web development. I have been working with local communities to restore urban parkland, organize citizen-lead environmental monitoring, and provide environmental education for youth since 2015.
